Label TextJohn Constable painted many views of Salisbury Cathedral. This one was commissioned by Dr. John Fisher, Bishop of Salisbury, who gave it to his daughter as a wedding present. The bishop himself appears in the left foreground, pointing out the cathedral spire to his wife, while a female figure with a parasol – probably their daughter – advances toward them.
