Label TextThis sculpture is a later version, much reduced in size, of a monumental marble commissioned for the French royal court in 1751. It proved to be a popular design. Allegrain exhibited other versions of the sculpture into the 1760s, and innumerable copies in various sizes were produced both in bronze and marble well into the 19th century.
