Label TextVan der Neer's favorite subjects were the rivers and other waterways of his native country either at sunset or after dark. He captures the subtle nuances of nocturnal lighting in this moonlight scene. Essentially monochromatic, the dark silhouettes of buildings and figures are nonetheless slightly infused with tints of red and blue, giving a sense of how moonlight alters the color of the landscape.Status
