Label TextThe profile view of the female sitter allowed the artist to concentrate on the elaborate styling of her hair, coiled and wrapped decoratively with a cord. He placed the dark column behind her to set off the delicate shape of her face in silhouette. The objects in the cupboard to the right, rendered with remarkable precision, are probably intended as symbols of her virtue and refinement.Status
