Inscribedverso: "Many years ago I persuaded the people who were working on Kelmscott Manor to let me take a look inside. It was a wreck, the floorboards up and I examined upstairs carefully stepping from joint to joint. Wallpaper hung in tatters from the walls and this bit 'fell off'.
