Label TextAround 1874, photography was incorporated into the design process for stained glass. Once a small figure drawing was made, it would be photographed and enlarged to suit the size of a particular window. Burne-Jones would then make any needed corrections on the photograph. This process continued to be used by the firm well into the twentieth century. The photographs were numbered and organized into albums for display in the firm's retail shop at 449 Oxford Street in London. Prospective clients were encouraged to consult the albums to help them select suitable subjects for their commissions. The Huntington William Morris Collection contains a number of examples of these large photographs as well as hundreds of small-scale versions.
