DescriptionTracing. St. Gregory is seen kneeling in front of altar - back view - two saints kneeling on either side of him holding large candlesticks - St. Lawrence kneeling at right. At the left of the altar stands a cardinal holding three-tiered crown and at right stands a bishop holding his pastoral staff. Behind the altar is Christ, standing inside tomb, wounds bleeding into cup at altar. Behind him, the well is hung with an assortment of carpentry tools.
Inscribedinscribed on note accompanying image in graphite: Copy of a very early German print, not de-/ scribed, apparently a Pax. in the Missal on the/ altar 'Gregorious' is written reversed.
in black ink: St Gregory with St. Lawrence and three other/ Saints performing Mass - St. Gregory is seen in a/ back view - St. Lawrence at his right and/ another Saint at his left all kneeeling in front/ of the Altar, and at the left of the Altar stands/ a Cardinal, holding a tiara - and at the/ right a bishop jolding his pastoral staff;/ an open mifsal[sic] lies on the Altar, on a leaf/ of which is inscribes ERG[letters are backwards] from which we presume/ OG[letters are backwards]/ IR[letters are backwards]/SV[letters are backwards]/ the Plate was engraved to engraft/ into some sacred vessel
