DescriptionThis was a model for a commemorative medal honoring the birth of Louis Joseph Xavier François, son of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette.
InscribedInscribed on a brass plaque secured to the lower portion of the front of the terracotta with four nails: L’himen présente le Dauphin à la France qui le reçoit dans ses bras, tandis que la Renommée sous la figure d’un enfant annonce l’accouchement de la Reine.
On the verso, embossed into red sealing wax: two round seals depicting coats of arms. Around each of the seals, apparently to protect them: a circle of hard grey putty attached to the terracotta.
