Label TextThis portrait of Anne Garth-Turnour was made shortly after her husband was elevated to the Irish peerage, as Baron Winterton of Gort. Lady Winterton's serene expression and easy, informal pose help convey the dignity of her new position, while serpentine twists of ribbons and tiers of lace on her gown, elements borrowed from French rococo style, show her dressed in the height of contemporary fashion. Ramsey achieved the delicate, multifaceted tones of the pink silk by applying contrasting layers of rich crimson pigment over a bright cerulean blue.Status
