Label TextTypical of furniture produced in New York in the last quarter of the 18th century, this elegant side chair in the Rococo style features an elaborately carved, serpentine crest rail and knees; a splat with interlacing scrolls and diamond pattern; large square claw-and-ball feet; and elaborate carving (a gadroon pattern) below the front seat rail. A Roman numeral VII is carved on the rear seat rail, indicating that this chair was once part of a large set.Status
