Brig of War Viscen [illegible] / under his command by HRM Frigate / Southampton. / He died a prisoner of war at Kingston Jamaica / Jan. 4 1813 / Unwilling to forsake his companions in captivity / he declined a proffered parole and sunk / under a tropical fever. This stone is in / scribed by the hand of affection as a / memorial of his virtues and records / the gratitude of his friends for the kind / offices which the season of his sick / ness and hour of death, he received at / the hands of a generous fee. / Portrait painted by Rembrandt Peale before / he sailed.
