Label TextLandacre submitted Rima in a contest to illustrate a projected edition of William Henry Hudson's Green Mansions, a mystical, exotic romance set in the jungles of Venezuela. "Rima the Bird Girl" is the name of the novel's heroine, the sole remaining member of a lost tribe. Hudson described her as wearing clothes made of spiderwebs, the diaphanous quality of which Landacre conveyed through tiny crosshatched lines. While another artist was chosen for the project, Landacre was pleased with his work and subsequently printed and issued the images independent of the publication.Status
