DescriptionThis framed watercolor, depicting a young woman reading in a library with a sculpture behind her, was given as a Christmas gift from Bob Wark to Margaret (Peggy) Dougan, his assistant, in 1963. On the back of the frame, a Huntington mailing label reads: ' `A Lady in a Library' by Thomas Uwins, 1782-1857 (Librarian of the Royal Academy) To Peggy - With all good wishes, and as a reminder of halcyon days in the ARL of HEH. From a grateful colleague - Bob Wark, Christmas `63'. Written underneath this in pen: 'This picture (and its frame) is to be presented to the Art Reference Library, of the Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery, upon my death. November 25, 1974, Margaret Truax Dougan (Mrs. Robert O.).' Mrs. Dougan died in 1992.
