Label TextToward the end of his life, Corot turned to painting solitary figures in quiet scenes of contemplation. Using feathery brushwork and silvery colors, seen in wispy leaves and gleaning water, Corot created a subtly emotional mood, which distinguishes such romantic views of rural France from the more realistic Barbizon landscapes that inspired the Impressionists.
